Transform, Release & Awaken

This retreat is going to be so magic. The combination of Yoga and the Mayan tradition of a sweat lodge ceremony is such a potent mix that can really allow us to dive deep, excavate that which no longer serves us and step into the summer ahead with a renewed sense of purpose and vitality!

During this weekend retreat we will bask in Nature and through yoga asana practise, pranayama (breath work), meditation, walks in Nature and sacred Mayan sweat lodge ceremony we will hold space for deep internal transformation. Cleansing and clearing out old debree from the Winter & Spring so we can skip into Summer with vitality and clarity.

Under the guidance of Maya healer Roland Torikian we will be participating in the scared Mayan ceremony of a sweat lodge. I have been working with Roland and the sweat lodges for over 5 years and have found it to be one of the most healing, potent and transformative practices. I cannot wait to share these magic ritual with you.

This coupled with the yoga, meditation and sacred intention setting will create a truly potent weekend for healing and enjoyment.

To support and nourish us through this incredible process we will offer wonderful, hearty and healthy vegetarian meals specifically catered according to what we will need each day.

Roland Torikian, Maya Healer: A Short Biography

On summer solstice this year I completed my twentieth year as a Maya Healer. I was born and raised in Kent and since early childhood felt a strong calling to this path. Whilst studying in Mexico City from 1992-93 I began to explore the potential of indigenous medicines and spiritual practices of the country.

In the spring of 1995, I met Lauro de la Cruz Martinez, a Maya Curandero from Villa Las Rosas, Chiapas, South Mexico and embarked upon a rigourous five year apprenticeship in Maya Medicine.

Lauro and I founded a new healing centre in San Cristobal de las Casas, known as “El Centro del Niño Fundador.” Along with Lauro and other Maya elders including the Lacandons Antonio Viejo and Chankin Viejo, I studied Maya Medicine - a comprehensive system of indigenous medicine that has flourished in the Maya Highlands and Lowlands of Chiapas for over two thousand years.

Some of the techniques more commonly used include pulse reading and egg diagnosis, limpiezas (spiritual cleansings), bodywork, dreamwork, “consultas” or talking therapy and the use of medicinal plants and ceremonies such as sweat lodges and house blessings.

As conductors of energy, Maya Healers work with the five sacred elements of Earth, Water, Fire, Wind, Space to help balance individuals and communities. As in many indigenous traditions we work with the principles of the interconnectedness of Man and Nature, Earth and Heaven, to help sow back together the ruptures in the fabric between the physical and non-physical worlds.

On completing my apprenticeship I went to India to run a Maya Medicine Centre in Dharamshala, whilst studying Tibetan Buddhist philosophy with Geshe Sonam Rinchen. In 2000 I returned to open Centro Maya in Godalming, Surrey. After several years of practicing and teaching I went back to Mexico and opened a healing centre in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato until summer of 2007. I now live in England and practice at triyoga in London. I run monthly seminars & sweat lodges in Kent and retreats in the UK, Europe, and Mexico.
